Bold claim hooks - leading with the number instead of the setup
The opener that states the result in the first line. When a claim or a stat carries an ad, and when it triggers the skepticism it was meant to bypass.
A bold claim hook puts the strongest thing you can say at second zero: a number, an outcome, a comparison. It skips the setup entirely, betting that the claim is interesting enough to be its own reason to watch. The cost is that you have spent your proof budget before the video has earned any credibility.
The Claim Is a Debt the Proof Beat Pays
A bold claim creates a debt the rest of the ad has to settle. The taxonomy makes this explicit: the stat you drop in the hook is the same stat the proof section is built to substantiate. A stat-drop opener with no proof beat behind it leaves the claim standing on the advertiser’s word alone.
When It Works
- You have a genuinely unusual number, and one you can show on screen rather than assert
- You have a genuinely unusual number, and one you can show on screen instead of asserting
- Categories crowded with vague benefit language, where specificity is itself the differentiator
- Scripts that follow the claim immediately with a data card or a demonstration
When It Does Not
- The claim is a category norm dressed up as news. A number nobody can contradict is also a number nobody remembers
- Regulated categories where the claim needs qualification you cannot fit into three seconds
- You have no proof beat: an unsupported opening claim converts skeptics into scrollers
- The number is impressive only with context, and the context is the thing you cut to make room for it
What Admetra Measures
- Position in the taxonomy
- Hook opener 3 of 10 in Admetra’s parts taxonomy, keyed “bold_claim_stat” and labeled “Bold claim / stat-drop”.
- How Admetra tags it
- “bold_claim” is a named value in the closed hook vocabulary - one of the six types the v8 prompt schema and the v12 contract share. The vocabulary is enforced in code in the v12 contract, which is opt-in per invocation; the daily pipeline still runs v8, whose prompt instructs six of the same values - v8 carries no “texture_shock”, and closes on “none” where v12 closes on “other”.
- Where the pattern continues
- The proof section carries a dedicated “data_stat_card” type, so a stat dropped in the hook has a named place to be substantiated later in the same ad.
